Blue Marine Foundation is a dynamic conservation charity founded in 2010 and based in the UK. Their mission is to restore the health of the ocean, helping to address the crises in climate and biodiversity by protecting and restoring marine life.

In line with the UN’s target, they aim to have 30 percent of the ocean protected and all of it managed sustainably by 2030. To achieve this, they are involved in over 50 projects across nearly 30 countries. Their partners range from national governments to local organizations and small-scale fisheries, where the recovery of marine biodiversity supports the livelihoods of entire communities.

Blue Marine Foundation acts as a catalyst to deliver conservation impact by using science, community engagement, media and legal campaigns, investigations, education initiatives and policy work. They intervene strategically and without geographic restriction, responding to the needs of the marine environment.  

Blue Marine’s initiatives are based on three strategic goals:

Securing effective protection of the ocean.  

Blue Marine aims to secure effectively managed marine protected areas that are closed to destructive fishing and other damaging activities.  

Tackling overfishing, supporting sustainable, equitable use of the ocean. 

 We tackle overfishing and other damaging activities. We support low-impact fishing and encourage a transition to fishing which benefits local economies and coastal communities without destroying the ocean.  

Restoring vital ecosystems.  

Blue Marine restores marine habitats to revive and protect vulnerable and threatened species.  

Blue Marine was the first charity we connected with when we began reaching out to potential partners, and we immediately hit it off. After hearing about their incredible work, we knew we had to get involved.

When searching for suitable partners, we wanted to collaborate with charities that have a genuine and global impact. Blue Marine’s work spans the globe, covering numerous countries and oceans. Their comprehensive approach—combining analysis, education, restoration, and activism—ensures they cover all bases to make the biggest impact possible. We’re constantly amazed by how many projects Blue Marine is managing to protect our seas.
