Denim sits at the heart of P&Co. It’s where workwear heritage and modern menswear really come together. Every wash and weight is chosen with intention - not just for how it looks on day one, but for how it wears in, fades and evolves over time. Understanding our denim starts with breaking it down properly: from raw states, through washes, and into fabric weights that define how each piece feels and performs.
where it begins
Raw denim is really where it all begins: unwashed and untreated, raw denim is the purest form of the fabric. It arrives stiff and structured, usually in a deep indigo colour. There’s no artificial fading or distressing at this point’ the character comes later. As it’s worn on the body, raw denim gradually softens, creases and fades based entirely on the wearer’s movement and lifestyle. This creates natural wear patterns and patina that make every single pair completely unique to them - it’s the most authentic expression of denim, rooted in traditional workwear and built for long-term wear.
From there, denim can move into washed finishes, which are used to control the tone, the softness and the character from the moment it's bought. Heavy wash denim is designed to feel lived-in from the start, through aggressive washing techniques and garment processing. The fabric is softened and lightened to create strong fading and contrast which results in a worn aesthetic that carries instant personality, often echoing vintage workwear or archival pieces that have already been broken down over time.
Then there’s mid-wash denim, which is between raw and heavy wash. It retains some of the depth and structure of darker indigo denim, but with softened edges and a more relaxed overall tone. This is one of the most versatile finishes, offering enough character to feel considered, while still being neutral enough for everyday styling. Mid-wash denim works across seasons and outfits, bridging the gap between clean and distressed aesthetics.

Alongside wash, denim weight also plays a major role in how each piece behaves. Lightweight denim, typically around 6oz to 10oz, is soft, breathable, and ideal for shirts or layered pieces (think our Mason shirt, which is 6oz denim). It moves easily with the body and works well in warmer weather or for more relaxed silhouettes. Midweight denim, usually between 11oz and 13oz (our Barstow Jeans, for example, which are 12oz denim) forms the backbone of most denim garments. It balances structure and comfort, offering durability without feeling overly rigid. This is the most versatile weight range and is commonly used across jeans, jackets, and workwear-inspired pieces. Heavyweight denim, often 14oz and above (like our Wyatt selvedge denim jeans, which were 16oz), is where structure and durability are pushed further. It feels dense and substantial from the first wear, holding shape strongly while gradually softening over time. Heavyweight denim is truly built for longevity and develops strong fade patterns with wear, making it a staple for more workwear-led silhouettes and heritage-inspired pieces.
Beyond wash and weight, texture and weave also define how denim feels. Traditional twill remains the foundation, but variations like hickory stripe and herringbone introduce different levels of depth and vibe. Hickory stripe denim carries strong workwear heritage, historically used in utilitarian uniforms, while herringbone adds a subtle directional weave that gives the fabric a more refined, textured finish. Both offer alternatives to standard indigo denim while staying grounded in utility and heritage design.
And that’s really the point of P&Co denim. It’s all made to be lived in and to offer the wearer a way to wear their own stories.
