Taking on a BMW R NineT was a whole new move and concept for Hookie Co.; being the first modern motorcycle to be taken apart and reworked by the German bike builders. Taking inspiration from a Brough Superior SS100, the guys were asked to completely rethink the BMW R Nine and create a more ‘classic’ style of bike.
Hooked by the immediate challenge of this new project Nico (craftsman @ Hookie Co.) got to work, stripping back the the tank and seat to reveal what was hidden underneath- only to find nothing but wires, black boxes, and more black boxes. Not the best basis to build a custom tank.
The main parts such as the ABS, fuel pump & the airbox were all kept in the same place- in keeping with the original bike. The initial process was off to a bit of a slow start as the guys worked to find the perfect tunnel construction. It took 1-2 weeks before a platform was created to define the new shape & build the new tanks and seat- starting with the wire frame; made with a welding wire that is easily manipulated when experimenting with different forms.
The classic style gas tank- low with a straight bottom line & curves for the knees, along with the seat and tail were made entirely from aluminium. It was at this point that the name of the BMW R NineT was also decided. Looking down on the bike the BMW cylinders and the tail resembled a bird of pray. From then ‘The Falcon’, a agile and sporty species, was born.
