As creatives we are constantly inspired by other artists & designers who share our need to create. Our Art Dept. Series allows us to collaborate with the artists that we feel not only resonate with us, but also our community. Lukas Krol's work caught our eye a long time ago- hugely influenced by vintage design & chopper culture, and we knew we had to work with him.

A while back we caught up with the man himself to get to know him a little better!

Hey, my name is Lukas Krol and I live in the Czech Republic. I am a freelance graphic designer, designing graphics for band merch and fashion brands. I think it was 2008 when I sold my first graphic, so you could say that I’ve been doing it for 14 years. I was employed by a clothing company for a long time, so it wasn’t until about 3 years ago that I went fully freelance. But, like anyone who is into graphics, I’ve been drawing since I was a kid.

All my interests and the things I do in my spare time definitely influence my work. When I’m not working I’m riding my motorcycle, camping and watching old movies.

I get a lot of inspiration from ‘70s/’80s stuff. Whether it’s design, advertising, movies or music. I’m a big fan of comic books, traditional tattoos, the chopper/ biker scene, the occult and even sci-fi. 
Lately, I have been studying a lot of great illustrators who originally came from my country, for example; Alfons Mucha, Zdenek Burian and Josef Lada. It’s very inspiring to follow their lives, and learn how they got into commercial illustration- especially during a time without the internet and the opportunities we have today. People who have accomplished something in life inspire me a lot.

The graphics I created were again heavily influenced by the eras of the ‘70s & ‘80s- a time when t-shirt prints started to become extremely popular. Each design has a bit of darkness and mystery- elements I like to add to every design. It’s very hard to pick a favourite, every graphic is different. But if I had to choose one design to wear, it would be the eagle- which was inspired by biker t-shirts, pieces that are very close to my heart.

My work constantly surprises me and I never know what the next month will bring. The beginning of the year has gotten off to a great start, with my collaboration with P&Co. If the rest of the year is filled with similar great projects, I will be happy. And in addition to great projects, I’d like to travel more. I bought an old enduro bike this year, and I am planning to take it on a few adventures to see the world in a different way, rather than just from the asphalt road.
