STEPPING IN FROM THE HECTIC STREETS OF DOWNTOWN LA AND OUT OF THE LIFT- WE STOPPED TO QUESTION WHETHER WE HAD WALKED INTO ‘GOD’S WAITING ROOM’ OR A SCENE FROM AN AL PACINO MOVIE. WE KNOCKED THE DOOR AND WALKED IN TO SEE FLOOR TO CEILING WHITE WALLS, A LARGE MARBLE TABLE AND A HEAVILY TATTOOED FIGURE DRESSED ENTIRELY IN BLACK. BEHIND HIM STOOD A GREEK STATUE (ALSO WHITE)- WHICH FAILED TO OBSTRUCT THE LARGE WINDOWS OVERLOOKING THE WHOLE ONE HUNDRED BLOCKS AND SKYSCRAPERS THAT MAKE UP THE FASHION DISTRICT.

THE FIGURE IN BLACK WAS IN FACT TATTOO ARTIST LEVI RIVOIRE AND THE MAN WE WERE HERE TO SEE. ONE OF THREE RESIDENT ARTISTS BASED AT CROOKED DAGGER- LEVI HAS BEEN TATTOOING FOR WELL OVER 10 YEARS AND HAS HELPED TO PIONEER THE MODERNISATION OF BLACK WORK. RECOGNISED FOR HIS BOLD FLASH STYLES AND ONE WESTERN STYLE SKULL IN PARTICULAR; THE TATTOOIST GREW UP ON A RANCH IN LOUISIANA BEFORE MOVING TO THE CITY TO PURSUE HIS CAREER.

DESPITE GUESTING AT SHOPS THROUGHOUT THE US, THE UK AND EUROPE WE WERE ABLE TO CATCH THE INSANELY TALENTED ARTIST WHILST WE WERE OVER IN LA- AND EVEN GOT AN INK OR TWO ADDED TO OUR COLLECTION. WHAT LEVI HAS CREATED AT CROOKED DAGGER, NOT ONLY WITH HIS WORK, BUT WITH THE STUDIO SPACE REALLY IS SOMETHING ELSE.

AND HE HAS A RESIDENT DOG NAMED RIOT, LIKE THE LA RIOTS. LEGEND.
